Pogačar Outsprints Van der Poel for Milestone 100th Victory
Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel now share the same overall time, but van der Poel keeps the yellow jersey thanks to better stage placings. Jonas Vingegaard finished third in the stage and is eight seconds behind in the overall standings. Primož Roglič finished 18th, over half a minute back, and climbed to 13th place overall (+1:27).

Only Vingegaard Could Follow the Attack
Pogačar looked in superb form, attacking a few kilometers before the finish on the final climb of Saint Hilaire (0.8 km at 9.4%). Only Vingegaard managed to follow him. Pogačar briefly gained a few meters, but the Dane closed the gap. “I was at my limit and tried to attack. Jonas could follow, and we regrouped at the front,” said the stage winner.
Almeida’s Key Support
The leading group expanded to seven riders, including Pogačar’s teammate Joao Almeida, who successfully neutralized an attack by Matteo Jorgenson. “Almeida did a great job catching the breakaways, I’m really happy with our teamwork,” added Pogačar. Celebrating his 100th career victory, he continued: “Winning at the Tour is always special, especially in the world champion’s jersey. It was pure racing – you never knew what would happen. I’m really happy.”
Stage Recap
Early on, a breakaway of Kasper Asgreen (EF Education-EasyPost), Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), Thomas Gachignard (Team TotalEnergies), and Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno X Mobility) formed. Their maximum lead over the peloton was about 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Tribute to Anquetil and Robic
The gap dropped to 1:40 before the climb of Jacques Anquetil (3.6 km at 3.4%). Martinez and Abrahamsen tried to break away, but the peloton quickly reeled them in. Asgreen took the KOM points. On the next climb, Belbeuf (1.3 km at 9.2%), Martinez went solo, but was caught on the Jean Robic climb (0.9 km at 7%). Organizers dedicated these climbs to past French Tour champions.
Wellens and Campenaerts Set the Pace
UAE took control, with Tim Wellens pushing hard. About 11 km before the finish, Victor Campenaerts (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) launched a fierce pace. On the final Saint Hilaire climb (0.8 km at 9.4%), UAE’s train led out again. Pogačar attacked 300 meters from the line, with Vingegaard the only one able to follow.
They were caught by five chasers in the final moments. Almeida set up a perfect lead-out for Pogačar, who overpowered both van der Poel and Vingegaard in the sprint.
Philipsen Already Operated
Jasper Philipsen, the winner of the opening stage in Lille and holder of the green jersey, was forced to abandon the race after crashing at an intermediate sprint. The Belgian has already undergone surgery for a broken collarbone, during which doctors also repaired his shoulder joint, confirmed his Alpecin-Deceuninck team.
